We are sewing and making up a storm for our July 26 Summer Walkabout.  Our young students will be selling some of their handmade goodies in addition to our own retail being up for sale.  We are still gathering up some our favorite youth artists and as we get closer to the date, we’ll announce who is setting up their pop-up shops at home ec. studio BOUTIQUE. If your child is into making things and would like to sell their goods, email us and let us know! The only requirement is that they have to dress up like their favorite super-hero because the Walkabout theme this month is “Superheroes” (aka Geek Month for the comic-con).

We have been quite busy in the studio gearing up for our retail BOUTIQUE GRAND OPENING on Sunday, June 8 (noon – 3 pm).  We are working hard to organize the studio, we’re making products and kits, ordering magazines and gathering vintage and reloved goodies to sell!

Now that the heatwave has subsided, remember not to let the months of May and June lull you into complacency.  In most places, May and June marks the beginning of summer.  In San Diego, however, summer doesn’t really get underway until the Fourth of July, when the marine layer burns off each morning.  That’s when the beaches and barbeques are in full swing.  That’s when you want to look your best.  Use these two gray and gloomy months to dial in your training and get to the gym regularly every week.  If you can’t make it to the gym then get outside.  Go for a swim, take a walk, ride your bike, go for a run, or take a hike.  All of these outdoor activities are not only good for your body, but your mind and soul as well.  Keep moving and make good food choices.  Feel good about yourself – exercise!

Do you have one of these old fashioned sewing machines at home?  In your attic perhaps?  One that belonged to your mother, or your grandmother?  If you do and are intrigued by it, join us for our new class: “Getting to know your machine.”  Monday afternoons.  It’s a quick basic sewing instruction.  We’ll teach you how to use your machine in an hour and a half.  And if you don’t have a machine and want to learn to sew, your can use one of ours.

April can be the make or break month for people who have just started exercising for the New Year.  Most begin their fitness training in February or March with excitement and enthusiasm, but these first few months can be difficult and frustrating.  Muscles are weak and endurance is low. For most, noticeable physical results don’t start to show until about 6 weeks. If you don’t make a commitment during this time period you will begin to fall behind with your goals and your results will stop.  Consistency gets you results.  If you can exercise three or more times each week you will see results quickly.  If you train two times per week you will still see results, just a bit slower.  Once a week exercise is absolutely beneficial, but it’s more of a maintenance program than a results oriented program.  Exercise consistently, even if it’s only once each week, and you’ll see results. And once you start to see results you’ll get hooked.  Your days will feel incomplete without your workout.  Your muscles will be stronger and you’ll be able to push yourself harder because your endurance has improved. Your eating will change as well. When you’re working so hard for results you will be more likely to make better food choices.  Once you add better food choices with exercise you’ll be on the fast track to results.

On March 7th we will be showcasing one of our favorite returning artists, Matan Chaffee alongside a new artist within the neighborhood, Anna Santana. Our resident DJ, Professor Shadow will be spinning an eclectic mix of Funk, Jazz, Motown, Rock and old school Hip Hop all on vinyl.  See you then!

Intensely hopped and big-flavor brews are known to be quite the passion for Stone Brewing Co. Taking another step in their lupulin obsession, the craft beer company is pleased to introduce Stone Go To IPA. This vibrant hop-bursted session IPA is the tenth addition to Stone’s year-round lineup.  Fans will be able to find the new release in 12-ounce bottle six-packs and on draft for pours and growler fills at  Stone Company Store South Park.

Stone Go To IPA is 4.5 percent alcohol by volume (ABV) and, therefore, considered a “session” beer. Session beers are defined as ales or lagers below five percent ABV, which allows for greater drinkability within a reasonable stretch of time. Stone Go To IPA is a very refreshing beer, loaded with intense peach, citrus and melon aromas and all the complex hop flavor that Stone IPAs are known for…meaning, it’s a hop bomb.

To achieve these glorious hop qualities and still maintain a low ABV, a technique called “hop bursting” was implemented. This contemporary approach involves infusion of a massive amount of hops during the final phase of the brewing process to coax out the robust flavors and aromas of the hops. Stone Go To IPA achieved its fruity, citrus notes by dry-hopping with mostly Mosaic and Citra, plus a complimentary addition of Cascade hops.

Stone Go To IPA is brewed with nine different hop varietals and meant to be consumed fresh or within 90 days, before the bountiful hop characteristics fade. The session IPA will be available all year long, so IPA enthusiasts and curious craft beer novices alike will be able to satisfy their appetite for the almighty hop with this everyday go-to ale.
