Can you believe that we are starting a whole new school year?!  Seems like yesterday that we started our little studio.  We are now entering our 6th year teaching San Diego how to sew.  To commemorate our back to school journey, we’re introducing the zipper lesson using these cute little pencil cases.  These are not just any old pencil pouches.  These are 3D soft sculptures. We are really going mad over Shibori dyeing this summer.  I’ve been seeing the trend all over the blogsphere and fashion/decor magazines but I haven’t physically seen them in our retail stores.  So being the DIY person that I am, I decided to do it myself.  I made my custom quilt in no time and it turned out to be an easy project.  We are teaching our after school students how to do this amazingly fun project.  If they like tie-dye, they will love shibori!  Read more about our shibori project here.

The Jackalope is a mythical animal of North American folklore (a so-called fearsome critter)  described as a cross between an extinct pygmy deer and a species of killer rabbit, they are extremely shy unless approached. (None have ever been captured alive).   In this month’s after school class we are creating “Trophy Head Plush Art.”  Our students will choose to make the jackalope or another wild creature.  What a lovely addition to hang in your home.  You can decorate the family den, hunting room or craft room with one of these beauties.  Check out our Wednesday and Friday class schedule here and sign up on-line.  Please note that no animals will be harmed in the making.

Stone IPA Madness will be coming to South Park!  Stone Brewing Company has been crazy about IPA since 1997.  We are celebrating our love for the almighty hop during the month of March.  We will tap flights of our many and varied IPA’s, and we will be rolling out some never-before-seen 6 packs! We’re obsessed with hops and all the bitter, fruity, resinous, tropical flavors they can bring to beer. These little buds are amazing in and of themselves, but the work that goes into making those characteristics shine is just as impressive. From the kettle and far beyond, we’re breaking down the magic of getting the most out of our hops and pushing those IBUs ever higher.  Check this awesome tap list!

LOVE is in the air at Home ec studio, and it smells MARBLE-ous.

Our after school gaggle did a great job marbeling fabric in January and came up with some beautifully designed infinity scarfs and pillows.  We Love our students and believe they are “True artists” in every way.  Their marbeling designs turned out beautiful. We are so proud of them.

Also, in February we are sharing the love of sewing… like we always do.  In fact, If you check our website class list you will notice we have a large listing of our upcoming basic machine anatomy 101 classes.  These classes are for the absolute beginner and are available every month.  You learn the basics of your machine (or ours) and complete a small project.  All materials are included.  These classes make great gifts for your sweetheart and for yourself!  We still have a few spots open in February here.

We are in the studio every Monday afternoon 1-3:30 and Friday 3-6 teaching our afterschool classes and we are even in the studio on some weekends…  Please check our class schedule and feel free to stop by say hi and browse our retail boutique.

Dont forget… to Love yourself (this month and always) and love what you do… hopefully it involves sewing.
